Being in business these days is tough, with huge competition in all areas of business and many other attractive opportunities available for customers, together with the fact that we are smarter shoppers these days, makes it harder to gain the attention of the elusive new customer.
So how does the business owner go about catching those all important new clients? There are a few things that you can try to improve your customer database but it depends on your finances and what resources that you have available.
Existing Customers
You already have a loyal following; your customers that currently use you, know you and your products. People are more likely to use a product or service if it’s been recommended, so a great way to utilise what you already have is to start a special offer for existing clients and a referral discount for friends and family. Joining business network groups and using business affiliations with other organisations, is another good way to attract new customers or consider starting a special offer for a particular company that one of your clients works for.
Up the Ante
Use advertising if your budget allows for it, radio and advertorials are a good way to reach new customers, however the cheapest way is to use what you already have, use your website and invest in a good social media campaign. Statistics show that women spend more time and money shopping online compared to men, also recently we have seen a trend for seniors that are now using the internet more frequently. Take a closer look at your target audience, consider tailoring your advertisements and campaigns for those groups. Think about your products and where could you go to show them off? Instead of waiting for customers to come to you, take your business out into the world and go look for opportunities, offer samples, or money off, or start a competition. Look also for new ways to promote, maybe teaming up with another company that sells a product or service that would compliment yours.
Spread the Word
Technology is your friend if you have a company website, make sure that it’s easy to find. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and keywords are very important, customers won’t spend long searching so check your website and look at what your customers are searching for and use those keywords in your descriptions. If you’re unsure then bite the bullet and pay someone to do it for you. Photographs are important so use fabulous images and clear descriptions, don’t use any technical language unless your customers know it and use it.
Keep it Clean
Remember it’s your reputation that sets you aside from the rest. Set your standards high for customer service and keep it there. Ensure that your staff know your customer procedures and stick with them. Offer outstanding service, something different and keep a good honest reputation. Deal with complaints quickly and go that extra step to give good service.
Attracting new customers is the key to the survival of your business, keep things fresh and grounded, think about what you offer, it’s that point of difference that will make you stand out from the rest.
